The Essential Habit for Aspiring Energy Auditors: Master Organization for Success
Saturday, March 23 2024

Welcome to the transformative world of energy auditing, a field where your success hinges on more than technical know-how; it depends profoundly on one crucial skill: organization.

My name is Eric Gans, and I have 18 years of experience as a contractor and digital marketer. My journey has taught me that meticulous organization in tool and information management is beneficial and essential for longevity and satisfaction in our rapidly growing industry.

Today, I'm here to share the transformative practices that have kept me going and positioned me as a frontrunner in the home performance field.

Why Organization Matters More Than You Think

Imagine wrapping up an exhaustive energy audit only to realize you left your blower door frame at the previous site. Without a solid system in place, such mishaps can shift from minor annoyances to career-stifling errors.

The solution? A foolproof organizational routine that safeguards against these oversights, ensuring everything you need is always right where it should be.

A System for Every Tool

The key to a seamless audit process is consistency. After each audit, you’ll quickly notice if something's amiss by returning every tool to its designated spot. This simple habit has saved me countless times, transforming potential headaches into minor hiccups.

Remember, every tool, including your audit credit card reader, should have a "home." This ensures nothing critical is left behind, maintaining your sanity and professional reputation.

Dressing for Success

Your attire can play a pivotal role in your day-to-day operations. Over the years, I've curated a set of tools that are as indispensable as they are portable, fitting snugly in my pockets.

From a Swiss Army Knife to a digital camera for audit images, each item is chosen for its utility and ease of transport.

The secret to carrying these essentials? High-quality, durable pants explicitly designed for the rigors of energy auditing. My recommendation? KUHL pants are a perfect blend of functionality and professionalism.

Vehicle Organization: Your Mobile Base of Operations

Adapting your vehicle to your professional needs might seem daunting initially, but it becomes second nature with time. Drawing from my early days as an auditor in Maryland, I learned that any car, from a Nissan Altima to a spacious SUV, can be an efficient mobile office with the right arrangement. Stability in where and how you store your equipment makes your life easier and ensures you're always prepared for the task at hand.

Embracing Your Journey with Confidence

As emerging energy auditors, embracing these organizational principles can elevate your practice from good to exemplary. Remember, your journey is unique, and while obstacles are inevitable, they're surmountable with the right mindset and strategies.

Let's Forge Ahead Together

Your path in the home performance industry is filled with potential, and with the organization as your foundation, there's no limit to what you can achieve. I'm here to guide you through every step, hurdle, and triumph.

Ready to take your energy auditing career to the next level? Join me in embracing these principles, and let's lead the charge toward a more energy-efficient future together.

I Can Help Accidental Window Salespeople Like Me

Are You an Accidental Window Salesperson?

If you sell replacement windows and can make some sales but are not a "CLOSER," keep reading.

If you like to solve issues for people and are willing to go out of your way, but it does not seem to be helping you make the sale, then keep reading.

If you like the great feeling when you get the job and the income potential and freedom that selling in the home can bring, keep reading.

You don't have to give any of that up!

My name is Eric Gans. I am a licensed Maryland contractor running a specialized home improvement business.

I have personally experienced all of the above examples.

From 2006-2015, I was a window contractor/ salesman who always seemed to be on the outside looking in at the other window salespeople in the market who were making the sales.

I was never consistent, but I could earn just enough jobs to keep a roof over my head.

I always needed the sale, and it harmed me. It was a weight on my shoulders every time I pulled up to the house. I never got ahead. I got behind. So far behind I had to close up shop and file for bankruptcy.

I Was on the Right Highway, Just in the Wrong Lane

Luckily, I found a secret road to take where I could use the things that I was good at to make way more money than I ever could or would have made selling windows.

I will be honest. I kind of stumbled upon it, and at the time, a few things went my way. Otherwise, I may not be here to tell this story.

If you read my story, you can see if you are anything like me and do what I did much sooner.

As I write this in March 2022, February (a short month) was a new record-setting month with $68,000 in sales and a 49% gross profit margin. By the way, there is only one employee—me.

So, what can you consider if you are anything like me?

10 Things to Check to See if You Are Ready to Get Control of Your Life

Do you have what it takes to make $30k in a month?

1. Are you personable?
2. Do you genuinely care about people?
3. Do you spend too much time problem-solving water leaks or other issues around a person's home before they buy anything?

5. Are you good at solving issues while your jobs are running?
6. Do you like to watch how the projects are installed in the field?
7. Do you like to work with the technicians in the field to gain mutual respect?
8. Do you find an interest in how windows are manufactured?

9. Do you like to write?
